Karnataka: Stones pelted at mosque, Muslim homes during rally in Haveri; several detained (News9Live)

Bengaluru: Several people were detained on Tuesday after they allegedly pelted stones at a mosque and some houses belonging to Muslims in Karnataka’s Haveri district. The incident took place on Tuesday at Rattihalli village in the district during a motorcycle rally carried out to unveil the statue of Sangolli Rayanna.

Police said during the rally, nearly 150 people took a sudden detour, went near the mosque and pelted stones.

“Nearly 8-10 houses and two vehicles were damaged. We have detained 15 people for investigation. Further action will be taken. Currently, the situation is peaceful,” said Dr Shivakumar, Haveri Superintendent of Police (SP).

 

Shopeekers voluntarily shut the shops in the area and security was beefed up.

According to locals, it is alleged that some Muslims had pelted stones at the statue of Sangolli Rayanna during a procession on March 9. The incident today is suspected to be an act of revenge…
