Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir administration has established a seven-member panel to identify and deport foreign nationals who have been illegally residing in the region for the past 13 years.

The panel, chaired by the administrative secretary of the home department, includes the FRRO of Punjab, CID (Special Branch) officers from Jammu and Srinagar, district SSPs and SPs (Foreigners Registration), and the state coordinator, NIC.

The committee is tasked with gathering biographic and biometric data of illegal migrants, maintaining a digital record, and submitting monthly reports to the Union home ministry.

It will also coordinate efforts to trace and deport illegal foreign nationals and monitor ongoing court cases related to these individuals.

In 2021, a police operation detained over 270 Rohingyas in Jammu and Kashmir, including women and children.
