Two Muslim youth, residents of Jamshedpur in Jharkhand, accused police officials of brutally beating and sexually assaulting them in a station premises last week. The duo also alleged that policemen hurled anti-Muslim slurs.

Mohammad Aurangzeb and Mohammad Arzoo, have written a complaint to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), accusing seven policemen including Kadma police station in-charge, Inspector Harshvadhan and Nitish Thakur of custodial physical torture and sexual coercion.

After a young woman from Kadma ran away with a youth from Dhatkidih, Aurangzeb and Arzoo were called to Kadma police station, on August 26. “I was called to the police station and was kept seated till 4 o’clock in the afternoon. And for the next five hours continuously, I was brutally beaten up by the policemen,” Aurangazeeb told Maktoob.

Following anti-Muslim slurs, policemen involved allegedly asked both threateningly, “Mohammad and Aurangzeb are dead, why should we not kill you too.”

Elaborating the police brutality further, Aurangazeb said, “I was forced to have unnatural sex with my friend, an accused in the case. On refusal to be involved in the sexual course, I was beaten up with a cricket wicket laced with excrement. Urine and excrement were also thrown on me.”

As per the statement of Aurangzeb his father was called to the police station on August 25.

“Police asked about my whereabouts and kept him in custody till the next day when I myself had to go to the police station.”

Talking to Maktoob, Arzoo recollected, “In preview of the alleged case, I was picked on August 23, forced to take pain killers to be tortured till 26th.”

One of the officers shouted while thrashing, “Tum mulle Talibani ho ye hindustan hai tum sab Afghanistan chale jao ( This is India and you Talibani Muslim should go to Afghanistan)”. The anti-Muslim slurs were hurled continuously.
