Ravinder Singh Negi, a BJP councilor, harassed a Muslim shopkeeper for not displaying his name on the store. He insisted that in the Hindu majority area, the shopkeeper should prominently feature his Muslim name.
Negi argued that with Navratri approaching, Hindu customers who are fasting might buy paneer from him without knowing that it is a muslim store.
In another incident, Negi harassed another Muslim shopkeeper for using a Hindu name for his store. When the shopkeeper pointed out that the surname “Tomar” is also used by Muslims, Negi dismissed this, insisting that in a Hindu-majority area, the shop should reflect a Muslim name.
