Hindutva Outfit Attacks Prayer Centre Over Conversion Row: Udupi

Udupi, KARNATAKA :  Radicals from Hindutva outfit attacks a prayer centre in  Udupi alleging illegal conversions. In the incident, men from  Hindu Jagarana Vedika (HJV) stormed into Pragathi church  at Anandi Maidan of Nakre in Kukkandoor village of Karkala district assaulting devotees including women and children present in the hall. The ,attackers said religious conversions were rife in the area and that if police failed to take action, they would persist with similar assaults.

The  prayer centre in question has been functioning for 10 years now. However, the HJV members said the place had no permission from the administration. They further alleged that the Christian missioners are baiting the young for conversion purposes.

The prayer centre is run by Benedict who said the allegations were falsified. “We have converted no one and only conduct prayers here,” he said.

The place has witnessed attacks on devotees in the past too.
