A crowd from the Hindu community took out a religious procession on the occasion of Durga Puja. While passing by a mosque, the men from the Muslim community asked the procession to lower the volume of the music played on loudspeakers. But the crowd refused. This sparked stone pelting and clashes.
According to eyewitnesses from the Muslim community, the Hindu crowd brandishing swords and sticks barged inside, vandalized the mosque, and set it on fire .
