Tensions have escalated in Bareilly after the construction of three minarets at the Mansoori Mosque, which Hindu organizations allege were built illegally overnight. The situation has sparked protests, with demonstrators demanding action against the supposed unauthorized construction. A Hindutva group initiated the ruckus, and local councillor Dheeraj Kumar, along with members of the Hindu Jagran Manch, soon joined the protest against the mosque.
In response to the outcry, local authorities have initiated the demolition of the minarets. The atmosphere became even more charged after the arrival of local leader Tauqeer Raza at the site, further heightening tensions. To prevent any escalation, a large police force has been deployed to maintain order in the area.
The issue in Bareilly comes on the heels of another major controversy regarding the construction of a mosque in Sanjauli, Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla. The Sanjauli mosque has sparked significant opposition, particularly from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Hindu organizations, and local residents. They have protested near the Vidhan Sabha in Shimla, demanding the demolition of what they assert is an “illegal” mosque structure.
