RAJKOT: Controversy erupted in a preschool in Gandhidham town of Kutch after a page of study material on features of cow went viral on social media.

After protests by parents on Monday, the GD Goenka Toddler House issued a clarification stating that the line “we can eat its (cow’s) meat’ in the syllabus was not intended hurt anyone’s sentiments.

The Montessari school runs UKG, LKG and day-care.

The page of the study material has a caricature of the cow and its characteristics like physical features, its food and sound. One of the lines read “We can eat its meat.”

When contacted, BM Vaghela, district primary education officer (DPEO) said, “The preschool doesn’t fall under our purview but after receiving this complaint, I have asked my subordinates to record the statement of school authorities and parents. I have also directed them to check if any trustee or teacher had given any controversial statement.”

Talking to reporters, the school principal Anchal Nankani said, “We taught this line ‘we can eat cow meat’ with the objective of explaining to the kids that we should not eat meat of any animal. We rever and worship cows.”
