Gujarat horror: Dalit man hangs self with widowed mother’s saree; chronicles torture he faced for over a decade

The police have recovered the man’s diary which is being considered as his suicide note. After going through the diary, two persons have been named by the police for abetting the man’s suicide.

Ahmedabad: On December 10, a man committed suicide by hanging himself in his residence due to the torture he had faced in the last few years. The police have recovered the man’s diary which is being considered as his suicide note. After going through the diary, two persons have been named by the police for abetting the man’s suicide.

The deceased victim has been identified as Dilip Solanki aged 35, who was a resident of Indiranagar near Lambha village. The man was a schedule caste belonging to the Valimiki community. Her mother has been identified as Leela, who is a daily wage worker.

On the afternoon of December 10, Solanki arrived back home, and his mother requested him to have lunch, the Times of India reported. But Solanki said he’d have his meal with her, so she went to take a bath. After she came out of the bathroom, she saw her son hanging from the ceiling fan. Solanki used her mother’s saree for hanging himself. A case of accidental death was registered by the Aslali police initially.

After Solanki’s suspicious death, the family started to look for his belongings, they found a diary but could not read what was written as most of them were not literate.

Solanki’s niece knew how to read so he started reading the diary, following which they got to know much pain was felt by the man. In his diary, Sonlanki mentioned about a guy named Vishal who abused him due to his caste. He also said that his family, the community has been defamed due to his caste.

In his diary, Solanki also wrote that a man named Hansa used to pass casteist remarks because Solanki belonged to the Valimiki community. Solanki also said in his diary, that he was thrashed by Vishal and Hansa.

On Monday a case of abatement to suicide has been registered against the two, based upon the diary.
