GURUGRAM: An argument between two neighbours escalated into a full-blown clash involving ‘gau rakshaks’ — among them Bajrang Dal member Monu Manesar — and youths from another community in Pataudi’s Babar Shah mohalla on Monday night.
Mohin Khan (20) suffered a bullet injury and had to be admitted to a hospital. He is said to be out of danger. His family said Mohin had nothing to do with either group and was passing by the locality at the time of the clash when the bullet hit him.
“Her family had lodged a missing person’s complaint on February 3. When the youth from the mohalla used a derogatory term against her, it angered members of the other community (the girl is from the same community). On Monday night, they formed a group of 20-25 persons and pelted the house of the youth with stones,” ACP (crime) Preet Pal Sangwan said.
Monu, an active Bajrang Dal member who also leads the regional network of gau rakshaks and uploads videos on social media showing him in hot pursuit of alleged cow smugglers, was alerted by someone he knew and reached the colony.
“I got a call from a Bajrang Dal member that a few youths from another community were disturbing Rakesh Kumar for a few days. My team and I reached his house and we were talking to him when 20 to 25 youths started hurling stones. They damaged our vehicles too, So, I sought help from the Bajrang Dal and informed police,” he said in his police complaint.
Monu and his associates were recently accused of fatally injuring 21-year-old man who died on January 28 in Nuh. While police claimed the youth died of injuries suffered during an accident, his family claimed he was tortured by a group of cow vigilantes. Later, Monu had filed a police complaint, alleging threats to his life.
