Indore: Police in MP’s Khandwa have arrested four persons for waving the Palestine flag during a Muharram procession on July 17.

Rehan Lohar, 19, Furkan Lohar, 20, Sameer Mansuri, 21, and Jahid Khan, 22, were detained on July 18 and placed under arrest the next day. An FIR has been registered against them in Moghat police station under BNS sections 196 (1) & (2) for ‘promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion’, Khandwa SP Manoj Rai said.

They were produced in court on Friday and were sent to jail. The SP told reporters that Bajrang Dal office-bearers had submitted a complaint about a Palestinian flag being held aloft during the Muharram procession. “Investigations revealed that the waving of the Palestinian flag triggered anger in nearby areas and there was an apprehension of disturbance of communal harmony in Khandwa city. Serious investigations revealed that the four committed the act with a common intention,” Rai said. TNN
