Kanpur: The police arrested former Bajrang Dal district coordinator Krishna Tiwari and sent him to jail for attempt to disrupt peace by burning an effigy of Aurangzeb at Motijheel intersection. The police also filed a report against 18 others accompanying him. Meanwhile, the Bajrang Dal has denied any association with Krishna Tiwari.
Additional Commissioner of Police Harish Chander said on Tuesday that Krishna Tiwari, Sumit, Anil, and Alok, along with 15 others, burned an effigy of Aurangzeb near the statue of Shivaji in Motijheel area of the city. The accused did not obtain prior permission for the protest and disrupted the traffic in the area.
On a complaint by sub-inspector Vipin Kumar from Swarupnagar police station, a report was filed against Krishna and his associates for attempting to disturb the peace, obstructing traffic, and defying public servant orders. Currently, Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) is in effect to maintain peace.
Station in-charge Suryabali Pandey said that Krishna Tiwari was sent to jail for disturbing the peace on Wednesday. Additional CP said that Krishna Tiwari currently has no association with Bajrang Dal.
“According to a local Bajrang Dal convener, their organisation has no involvement with the effigy burning,” he said.
