On Saturday, the Haryana Police arrested Inspector Radhey Shyam, a suspended station house officer, on charges of custodial torture at the Palwal city police station.

The incident in question dates back to December 2024, when an accused from Rajasthan was detained in connection with a fraud case. Rather than carrying out a lawful investigation, the officer—already known for a pattern of harassing Muslims and for previous allegations of custodial violence—allegedly subjected the detainee to brutal abuse.

He reportedly beat the accused, forced him to consume chilli paste, and inserted the substance into his private parts using an injection.

The investigation into the alleged custodial torture was concluded on April 16, with findings confirming that Radhey Shyam was guilty of serious misconduct. As a result, the Inspector General of the Rewari Range suspended him the same day. Meanwhile, a separate inquiry remains ongoing against him over accusations of custodial violence involving two individuals arrested on charges related to cybercrime.

Radhey Shyam, who previously headed the Special Cow Protection Task Force in Nuh, is backed by Hindu right-wing groups such as the Bajrang Dal and figures like Bittu Bajrangi—notorious for perpetrating violence against Muslims in Nuh and nearby regions.

“That person (Radhey Shyam) is a habitual offender; he should not be in the police force. He has committed extreme brutalities, especially against Muslims. All residents of Nuh and I welcome the action against him. Anyone supporting him is favouring unlawful acts. Earlier, too, he ran away from enquiries, and he does this (torture) everywhere he goes,” senior Congress leader and Nuh MLA Aftab Ahmed told the Indian Express.

Meanwhile, Hindutva organisations have issued threats to authorities, demanding the immediate revocation of Radhey Shyam’s suspension and his release from custody.

Bittu Bajrangi—a self-proclaimed cow protector and a convict in cases involving the lynching of Muslim men—announced that Hindutva groups will stage protests across the state.
