A video of an elderly man being assaulted by passengers on a train in Maharashtra’s Nashik district on suspicion that he was carrying beef has gone viral on social media, inviting fierce criticism from the opposition. A video of the incident, which took place near Igatpuri on Dhule Express, was shared by AIMIM MP Imtiaz Jaleel, who called out the government and police for turning a blind eye against “these forces”.

The alleged incident took place earlier this week, the Government Railway Police (GRP) said on Saturday. Thane GRP has registered an FIR against more than five passengers.

The argument first started over the seat. The video shows several people surrounding the elderly man and threatening him. The group then goes on to assault the man even as he pleads before them. The elderly man is also heard saying that it was goat meat and not beef.
