A controversy has emerged in Brahmpuri over the construction of an annexe to the Al Mateen Masjid, with local residents led by BJP leaders raising objections.

The construction of a new entrance of the Al Mateen Masjid resumed in February this year after the Al Mateen Welfare Society secured approval from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

However, a complaint was filed on February 13, alleging unauthorised construction, following which the MCD issued a show cause notice halting the work.

Almost 21 residents on Monday filed a complaint alleging stone-pelting on the night of March 2-3.

The mosque, originally built in 2013 in Gali No. 13, was expanded after its trustees purchased adjacent land in Gali No. 12 in 2023. However, local concerns led to a PCR call in November 2023, prompting authorities to stop the work.

On Monday, BJP leader Jai Bhagwan Goyal led a group protesting against the construction of a mosque, claiming that local Hindus were planning to leave because of it.

He alleged, “Delhi’s Seelampur, Brahmpuri are witnessing Hindu migration. A mosque is being constructed in front of a temple… Hindus are being harassed… Residents of Lane Number 12 were not allowed to be met.”
