Savarkar

New Delhi: The Delhi University (DU) is considering to name one of the two upcoming colleges after Hindutva ideologue VD Savarkar. His name was finalised at a high-level meeting held by DU office bearers. The same will be discussed Academic Council on Tuesday.

Delhi University (DU) Registrar Dr Vikas Gupta has shared information in this regard. He said that during the deliberations several names were suggested for these two colleges, in which former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Veer Savarkar, Swami Vivekananda, and Sardar Patel are prominent. These names will be discussed in the Academic Council (AC) and the Executive Council (EC). He told that these two committees will give the final seal on the proposal regarding the name.

National Students Union of India’s Delhi president Kunal Saehrawat has condemned the decision. He warned that if a signboard with Savarkar’s name is installed outside the proposed college then it will be blackened.

Two years ago, NSUI members had blackened the face of a Savarkar’s statue installed by ABVP in DU’s north campus.
