The Delhi High Court has issued an order directing the removal of YouTube videos and online articles defaming Dhanya Rajendran, the editor-in-chief of The News Minute.

The interim injunction, passed by Justice Vikas Mahajan on 15 July, mandates the removal of content from pro-Hindutva media outlets including The Karma News, Janam TV, and Janambhumi newspaper.

These outlets had accused Rajendran and other independent digital news publications of being “agents” of billionaire George Soros, with an agenda to disrupt Indian democracy.

The defamatory content was linked to the “Cutting South” media festival held in Kochi in March 2023, organised by the Kerala Media Academy in association with The News Minute, Newslaundry, and Confluence Media.

The Hindu right wind media outlets claimed that Rajendran and The News Minute were conduits for foreign funds aimed at causing disruption in India.

Justice Mahajan observed that the allegations lacked credible sources and were not based on any public record or criminal case against Rajendran. He described the claims as “defamatory and libellous,” made recklessly and with intent to harm Rajendran’s reputation.
