A Delhi court on Friday acquitted 12 Hindutva men accused of murdering two Muslim men during the pogrom that took place in the national capital in February 2020.
Pulastya Pramachala, Additional Sessions Judge of the Karkardooma Court, said there was no evidence on record to show that any of the accused men were part of the Hindutva mob accused of killing the two Muslims.
“It is only a formality to say that there is no evidence on the record to show that any of the accused was a member of the culprit mob.”
According to the court, WhatsApp chats of Lokesh Kumar Solanki, one of the accused in the case, in which he allegedly confessed to the two murders, cannot be considered “substantive evidence.”
“In view of my discussions, observations, and findings, I conclude that the charges against the accused have not been proven at all,” said the court.
Others acquitted in the case were Pankaj Sharma, Ankit Chaudhary, Prince, Jatin Sharma, Himanshu Thakur, Vivek Panchal, Rishabh Chaudhary, Sumit Chaudhary, Tinku Arora, Sandeep, and Sahil.
The cases were registered at Gokulpuri Police Station under multiple charges, including rioting, murder, unlawful assembly, promoting enmity between communities, and destruction of evidence.
