AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan was detained Thursday during clashes that broke out during protests against an SDMC demolition drive that took place today.

The BJP-governed civic body today rolled into Madanpur Khadar in South East Delhi and demolished several structures it deemed as “illegal construction.”

“I am ready to go to jail if it saves the houses of poor people. There is no encroachment here. I will support them (civic body) in demolition if there is any encroachment,” he told news agency ANI before his detention.

Ten people were also detained in South-east Delhi amid the demolition drives.

Residents were seen raising slogans against the police, which is providing security to the civic body while it continues its operation.

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) conducted an anti-encroachment drive in Amar Colony, East of Kailash and other adjoining areas in South Delhi.

The drive started near the Amar Colony police station and covered the areas of Kalka Devi Marg, Kalyan Nagar, Sant Nagar, ISKON temple and all adjoining areas of Amar Colony and East of Kailash.

The officials of the SDMC along with CRPF and Police personnel are in the locality now.

The police resorted to lathi charge in response to stone-pelting on police personnel and paramilitary forces.
