New Delhi: BJP MLA in Delhi Karnail Singh wrote the Delhi Police Commissioner on Tuesday and demanded action against those performing Namaz in public places. Claiming that religious gatherings on roads obstruct essential services, Singh wrote, “I would like to draw your attention to an important issue. In our city, offering Namaz on roads and public places disrupts traffic, causing inconvenience to the general public. Many times, ambulances, school buses, and other essential services are also affected due to this reason,” The Indian Express reported.

He demanded that Namaz offerings must be restricted to private spaces.

“We all have the right to follow our religion, but it is also important that public order and traffic are not affected. Therefore, you are requested to ensure religious activities are organised only in designated places and private premises,” the letter read.

A first-time MLA representing Shakur Basti constituency, Singh Jad defeated AAP leader and former health minister Satyendar Jain by a margin of 20,998 votes in the recent Delhi Assembly elections last month.

While the festival of Ramzan is about to fall at the end of this month or starting of next, BJP leaders in Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir demanded the closure of meat shops during Navratri, citing Hindu sentiments. What is notable is that even Congress leader and MP from Uttar Pradesh Imran Masood backed the demand, India Today reported.
