The Meerut CB-CID has written to Bulandshahr and Saharanpur police chiefs to arrest eight cops involved in the 2020 killing of a Dalit man in custody in Khurja police station of Bulandshahr, officials said on Thursday.
According to officials, Sonu Kumar (24), a resident of Khurja area, eloped with a girl from his village on December 6, 2020. His family members were detained and harassed in the police station.
Police found the couple on December 10, 2020.
Sonu was arrested and found dead in the lockup the next day. Cops claimed he had hanged himself inside the police station.
