A young Dalit man in Rajasthan’s Sikar district was allegedly beaten, sexually assaulted, and urinated upon by two men, who also abused him with casteist slurs. The accused threatened to leak a video of the attack if he reported the crime, police said on Sunday.
The incident occurred on April 8 but was only reported to the police on April 16 after the victim’s family filed a complaint. A case has been registered under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
In his complaint, the survivor said, “They were drunk. They hit me with a bottle, urinated on me, and used casteist abuses.”
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Arvind Kumar stated, “An FIR has been filed. The victim’s medical exam was done, and his statement recorded. Investigations are ongoing.”
According to the complaint, the accused called the victim to a bus stand on the pretext of work while he was watching a wedding procession. They then took him to a secluded spot, forced him to undress, beat him, and sexually assaulted him. They also threatened to harm his father, who lives abroad.
The incident has sparked a political fight, with the Congress party criticizing the BJP-led state government for failing to protect citizens.
Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said, “The trauma was so severe that the victim couldn’t file a complaint for eight days.” Opposition leader Tika Ram Jully added, “This is the reality of Rajasthan today—a Dalit youth kidnapped, beaten, sexually assaulted, and humiliated. This is not a movie scene, it’s a shameful truth.”
This is the third reported case of violence against Dalits in just three days. Earlier, in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur, a 24-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping an 11-year-old deaf and mute Dalit girl.
