SILCHAR: A 25-year-old Dalit man is battling for his life in hospital after being allegedly brutally tortured by the relatives of his upper caste girlfriend in Cachar district.
Though the incident took place at the Moniarkhal tea garden on December 1, it came to light on Monday after the victim’s brother filed an FIR, said an officer of Dholai police station.
According to reports, Ashok Rabidas was allegedly attacked by a gang of 10 people, including his girlfriend’s brothers, at the Moniarkhal tea garden on the evening of December 1 when he was returning home after work. After injuring him with sharp weapons, the attackers rubbed chilli powder and salt on his wounds. Ashok was later taken to Silchar Medical College and Hospital and his condition is serious, as per reports available from the hospital.
