By Kanwardeep SinghBAREILLY: A 45-year-old Dalit farmer, Asaram, who was detained at a police station in Lakhimpur Kheri for questioning in a case related to the alleged murder of a six-year-old girl, died under mysterious circumstances in custody Friday night. His family accused the cops of beating him to death and claimed there were deep cuts all over his body which they alleged was due to “third-degree torture.”
Additional SP Naipal Singh said based on the family’s complaint, an FIR was lodged against the outpost in-charge and a constable.
“Both have been suspended. We found that Asaram was named in a complaint by the father of a minor girl who was found murdered 10 days ago. Asaram himself came to Mitauli PS in Lakhimpur Kheri, but after some time, his health deteriorated. We shifted him to a hospital where he died around 10 pm,” the ASP added.
