Dalit girl gang-raped in moving car at Panipat

A 15-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly gang-raped in a moving car by two youths at Model Town here on Friday night.

The Class XI student of non-medical stream was found in an unconscious condition and admitted to a private hospital.

SP Sumit Kumar said both the accused — Ashish of Model Town and Vishu of Sat Kartar Colony — had been arrested. The police have impounded the car used in the crime.

On the girl’s complaint, a case was registered against the two under Sections 328, 341, 354 (molestation), 365 (kidnapping) and 376-D (gang-rape) of the IPC and Section 6 of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Section 3 of SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

The victim reportedly went to her tuition class in Model Town at around 5 pm on Friday but did not return home till late in the evening.

As her family was looking for her, they got information that she was lying near DAV Park at Model Town in an unconscious condition. People gathered there and sounded the police.

The girl regained consciousness in the hospital around midnight following which the police recorded her statement.

According to sources, the victim came in contact with Ashish through social media — Facebook and Instagram — around 15-20 days ago.

According to the police, Ashish had called her near DAV Park. When the victim reached there, Ashish and three other youths were having liquor in a car to celebrate the birthday of one of the youths.

They made her sit in the car and gave her some liquor in a soft drink following which she fainted. Then, they started molesting her in the moving car on Model Town roads.

Later, two youths left the car while Ashish and Vishu took her to the Delhi Parallel Canal side road. They allegedly raped the girl in the moving car.

After committing the crime, the accused left the girl near the park where her Scooty was parked.

Meanwhile, the people gathered there and caught the boys with the car there and sounded the police.

Meanwhile, Padma Rani, chairperson, Child Welfare Committee (CWC), along with a member Meena Sharma met her at the hospital on Saturday morning to enquire about the incident.

DSP Bijender Singh said the girl’s medical examination has been conducted at the Civil Hospital and her statement has also been recorded by a Magistrate under Section 164 of CrPC on Saturday.

The accused were produced in court on Saturday and the court has sent them on one-day police remand, the DSP added.

According to the police, accused Ashish and Vishu had left their studies after passing Class XII. Vishu’s father has been lodged in jail for the past two years in connection with a murder case while Ashish’s father had left the house many years ago.
