Dalit engineer thrashed by co-workers on suspicion of theft in Gujarat ( India Today )

The engineer's co-workers accused him of stealing diesel, and said that Bharat Thakor, a fellow employee saw him stealing. They allegedly hurled casteist slurs at the Dalit man and thrashed him.

An engineer from the Dalit community was allegedly thrashed by five men on suspicion of diesel theft in Gujarat’s Banaskantha district. The man, who was an engineer at a private manufacturing company in Palanpur, was beaten up by his co-workers.

The 25-year-old engineer was visited by his co-workers at his house on September 28. They took him out in a vehicle on the pretext of a fellow employee’s birthday party at a hotel.

They stopped the car on a bridge and accused him of stealing diesel, and said that Bharat Thakor, a fellow employee, saw him stealing. They allegedly hurled casteist slurs at the Dalit man and thrashed him.

He sustained several injuries, including a fracture, after the incident. He is receiving treatment at a hospital.
