A Delhi court Wednesday convicted two persons accused of rioting, arson, robbery, unlawful assembly, and dishonestly receiving stolen property during the 2020 Northeast Delhi riots.

While convicting Noor Mohammad alias Noora and Nabi Mohammad, Additional Sessions Judge Pulastya Pramachala noted, “….accused Noor Mohammad @ Noora is held guilty for offence punishable under Section 148/427/435/436 IPC read with Section 149 IPC. He is further held guilty for offence punishable under Section 392 and 188 IPC. Accused Nabi Mohammad is held guilty for offence punishable under Section 411 IPC.”

Complainants Dalip and Shiv Kumar Raghav had alleged that on February 24, 2020, around 3 pm, a mob of around 50 armed rioters came from Mustafabad and broke open the main gate of a shop called Giri Automobiles. They also alleged that the rioters set 15 motorbikes on fire.

According to the complainants, one of the rioters demanded money from them along with their mobile phones. After this, the complainants were given five minutes to flee following which they jumped over to the adjacent plot to save their lives, they said. Both Dalip and Raghav claimed that they had lost around Rs 2.5 to 3 lakh due to the incident.
