Patidar leader Panara filed the complaint through his advocate and sought proceedings against Shingala — a Jamnagar resident known for her right-wing views — under sections 499 (criminal defamation) and 500 (punishment for defamation) of the Indian Penal Code.
Two weeks after he filed a police complaint against Kajal Shingala alias Kajal Hindusthani for her alleged remarks defaming Patidars of Morbi, Patidar leader Manoj Panara, also a general secretary of the Congress, moved a complaint of criminal defence in a court on Tuesday.
Panara filed the complaint through his advocate and sought proceedings against Shingala — a Jamnagar resident known for her right-wing views — under sections 499 (criminal defamation) and 500 (punishment for defamation) of the Indian Penal Code.
Panara said that Shingala’s comments at an event in Surat on June 8, 2023, has angered the Patidar community. In a purported video, Shingala is heard saying that seven college-going girls have chosen boys from other faith as their boyfriends, are swapping boyfriends among themselves, have pilfered money from their homes to purchase a car worth Rs 40 lakh for their boyfriends, even as their mothers are busy making reels and fathers are busy earning money.
