Nine days after around 100 people from groups like Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) took out a march in Raipur, during which communally provocative slogans were allegedly raised, the Chhattisgarh Police added charges of “promoting enmity…between classes” to the FIR filed in connection with the incident.

While the FIR mentions the right-wing groups, no one has been named as accused and no arrests have been made.

After photos and videos of the March 21 rally came up on social media, one Syed Naved Ashraf approached Raipur’s Civil Lines police station on March 27 with a complaint. He also approached the Election Commission as the rally, in which derogatory slogans against minorities were allegedly raised, took place while the Model Code of Conduct is in place ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
