Three people were arrested and search was on for many others for their involvement in violence after a clash broke out between two communities over the installation of speakers in Dumraon village under Ichak Block in Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh district Wednesday morning during the Shivratri celebrations.
It all started when one group objected to the installation of religious flags and a loudspeaker in front of a school in Dumraon village within Ichak police station limits by members of another. The war of words escalated into violence, with both sides pelting bricks at each other, Ichak Block Development Officer (BDO) Santosh Kumar said.
Hazaribagh Additional Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar told The Indian Express that three motorcycles and a car were torched during the violence. An FIR was registered and a probe was on, he said.

Meanwhile, Ichak Block BDO said members from the two communities were engaged in discussions to “resolve the issue”.
“The situation is under control right now. A force of around 150 policemen is camped at the spot. More personnel will be called in if required,” the BDO said.
The BDO said that in the past, the two communities have been at odds over a “minar sort of structure” inside a madrasa. It was when loudspeakers were installed near the madrasa that the situation escalated, officials said.
