Christians stage protest in Khammam

Christians staged a protest in Khammam on Friday seeking action against those hurting sentiments of the community.

Khammam: Christian community members and pastors took a peace rally here on Friday seeking action against a few activists Hindu outfits and BJP for allegedly threatening to kill the pastors.

Led by the Association of Integrated Christian Councils national president, John Benny Lingam, they staged a protest at Dharna Chowk and submitted a memorandum to RDO Sirisha.

The community leaders alleged that outfits like Shiva Shakti, Hindu Janashakti and some Hindu activists like Karate Kalyani and Shailu Katari were speaking in a derogatory manner about Jesus Christ.

They use YouTube channels, Facebook, WhatsApp groups to denigrate Christianity by means of short films, printed books and websites. Paripoornananda of Hindu Janashakti was supporting them, they complained.

Shiva Shakti member Radha Manohar was ridiculing even Supreme Court Judges and warning the judges to stay within their limits and used social media to disparage the Supreme Court. Hence serious action has to be taken against those causing communal tensions, they said.

Pastors Shekhar Babu, Nathaniel, Ravikiran, Sanjeeva Rao, Philip, Bishop and pastors of various denominations of the community in Khammam district took part in the protest.
