The Bengaluru police have booked Bengaluru South BJP MP Tejasvi Surya for alleged hate speech after he posted on social media a video of the alleged assault on a shopkeeper for playing Hanuman Chalisa.

A police officer confirmed to Indian Express that a case was registered at the Halasuru gate police station against Surya, the president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, after the Flying Squad Team (FST) of the Election Commission filed a formal complaint.

“A complaint was made by an organisation named ‘Campaign Against Hate Speech’ before the Election Commission,” said the police.
