An MP from Bharatiya Janata Party, Medha Kulkarni allegedly threatened members of a dargah committee in Maharashtra’s Pune district during Hanuman jayanti celebration.
A video of the incident has gone viral on social media which occurred on April 12. The video shows Kulkarni along with her followers approaching members of Muslim community near Punyashwar Temple and Salahuddin Dargah. She allegedly tried to stop the azan, Muslim call to prayer; she accused the members of playing the azan at a very high volume.
After the incident the members of the Dargah demanded strict action against the MP. However, Kulkarni has denied all the allegations and has threatened to file a defamation case against the members if the claims are proven to be wrong.
Kulkarni alleges, “while the aarti and Hanuman chalisa were going on, Dargah members played the azan loudly. We requested them to lower the volume but they argued with me.”
“I was unaware of the development as I was travelling. however I learnt about the videos of the incident going viral on social media. In the clips, it is clear that I covered my ears because of the loud sound. They argued when I requested them to reduce the volume, the image just also shows police stopping them as they approached us. It is now up to them to prove their allegations. If they fail I will file a complaint against them,” she added.
However, in the video’s audio, only Hindu religious songs can be heard.
