BIDAR: A portrait of Dr B R Ambedkar on a pole was found disfigured by unidentified persons with a garland of footwear at Vilaspura village in Bidar taluk on Friday morning. The portrait was affixed on a pole just outside the village.

As tensions mounted, Deputy SP Pradeep Gunti visited the village, removed the garland of footwear and placed a garland of flowers on the portrait. The officer also spoke to the villagers and calmed the situation.

Dalit organisations have expressed their anger over the defacement and have demanded the police to arrest the miscreants. The Janwada police have registered a case and are investigating.
