When Amar Kulkarni sang “Shoonya se eik shatak bante, ank ki manbhavna… (The dream of going from zero to hundred)” at the RSS’s annual Vijaya Dashmi function in Nagpur on Tuesday, the important ritual in the organisation’s annual calendar carried extra significance.

Although the ekal geet (solo song) had been written months ago and had been rehearsed behind closed doors in front of top leaders for their feedback, this was its unveiling before the public. By invoking Lord Ram in the lyrics, the new song acted as a curtain raiser of sorts for the Ram Temple inauguration, preparations for which are underway in Ayodhya.
