Tantrapeethadhishwar Aniket Shastri Maharaj of Trimbakeshwar has called for the removal of Mughal ruler Aurangzeb’s tomb from Maharashtra, citing his “cruelty towards the Marathas, particularly Sambhaji Maharaj”.

“Aurangzeb was a cruel ruler who caused immense suffering to Hindus. His tomb has no place in Maharashtra and should be demolished immediately,” Shastri Maharaj said on Sunday.

He accused Aurangzeb of barbaric acts, including the killing of his own father and brother, and the torture of Sambhaji. The demand has gained backing from Hindu organisations like the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal.

“If the government does not act, Hindutva followers and supporters of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj will raise their voices in unity,” he warned.
