FIVE MEMBERS of a family were arrested by the Beed police after they allegedly beat their driver to death on finding out that he was in a relationship with their daughter. The police are on the lookout for one more family member who is on the run.

An official said that while the family was Maratha, the deceased Vikas Bansode was from the Dalit community.

An officer said that on Saturday, Akash Bansode, elder brother of the deceased Vikas (23), who resides in Borgaon village in Jalna, received a phone call from Bhausaheb Bhanudas Kshirsagar around 1 pm. Since 2018, Vikas worked as a truck driver for Kshirsagar who resided in Pimpri Ghumri village in Ashti taluka in Beed district.

Kshirsagar told Akash to get his relatives and take Vikas with them. When Akash asked if something had happened to Vikas, Kshirsagar told them to come and see for themselves. Akash told the police that he had last spoken to his younger brother on March 14, when he informed him, that Kshirsagar had called him to his residence for Holi.

Akash called up Prakash Salve, a friend of Vikas, who had gone with him to Beed. Salve told him that Kshirsagar and his family members suspected Vikas was having an affair with their daughter. Hence, they tied up Vikas and him at a shed near their house and beaten them up brutally. Akash immediately left for Beed along with his relatives.

When they reached Kshirsagar’s residence, they were told to go to the local general hospital where Vikas had been admitted. When the family reached the hospital, the doctors told them that Vikas had succumbed to the injuries he had sustained.
