Six policemen attached to the Vakola police station have been transferred to a side posting as provisional punishment on Saturday after allegations were made against them for assaulting two activists of Bajrang Dal, who had gone to the police station along with a minor girl to file a molestation case against a member of another community.
A senior police officer confirmed the development to The Indian Express and said that two officers and four constables from the Vakola police station have been transferred to the Naigaon local arms division ‘in public interest’ on Saturday.
The six policemen, who faced action, are identified as assistant inspector Shivaji Shinde, probationary sub-inspector Achyut Naikare, head constable Suresh Madhgundi, constables Dyaneshwar Shinde, Pradeep Mistry and Arvind Raut.
As per police sources, an officer bearer of the Bajrang Dal; Jaikishan Prajapati, and another member of the organisation last month had gone to the Vakola police to allegedly get an FIR registered against the member of a community on charges of molesting a minor girl in Santacruz East.
Prajapati had also taken the victim girl to the police station to help her file an FIR.
