MORIGAON: A day after a brutal attack by a group of Bengali-speaking minority Muslims on a Hindu family at Garumora Doloni Village, Jhargaon, under Mayong PS, Morigaon district, on February 9, a tense situation prevailed in the village.
Around 300 people of the Jhargaon area assembled yesterday at Lakhi Mandir, Jhargaon market, Mayong PS.and held a meeting in protest against the assaulting incident involving two communities over an issue of cutting of grass that took place at Garumora Doloni Village. Four Hindu Bengali persons received cut injuries over their bodies in the incident and after treatment they were released from GMCH. One Muslim boy, who was injured in the assault by Hindu persons, was also released from the hospital along with his father and 8 others (total 10). The criminals have already been arrested and forwarded to the court. Two cases have been registered in the incident.
Babul Sarkar, a member of the victim’s family said, “Just four days ago, my uncle Jatindra Sarkar (41 years) warned Maina Ali and Sirajl Islam not to cut grass on his agri lands (Miadi patta land). Thereafter, showing thumb to the warning of Jatindra Sarkar, the miscreants Maina Ali, Kasem Ali, and Sirajul Islam attacked him on his back where he sustained severe injuries and fled from the spot for life. But the miscreants did not stop there. They ran into him near our fishery and attacked him again. Our family members Abiram Sarkar (40 years), Prabhati Sarkar (21 years), Monjit Sarkar (10 years), and Ruma Sarkar (18 years) were brutally attacked by the miscreants. They received severe injuries on their heads and were admitted to Morigaon Civil Hospital and later referred to GMCH, Guwahati.” He added, “The conditions of the four injured are critical. The culprits also verbally abused the women. I had gone to the market in the morning and the miscreants got the chance to attack our family member. They even entered our courtyard and attacked my family members. My uncle, sister-in-law, niece, and sister ran into the room and locked the door from inside to save their lives.”
Talking to The Sentinel, Addl SP Samiran Baisya said, “The main culprits Mania Ali and Kasem Ali were arrested and taken to the court.”
