A 27-year-old Muslim man identified as Mohd Salman died on January 18 after being violently beaten by villagers in Nawada, a village in Uttar Pradesh‘s Saharanpur district. A video of the incident on January 13, shows Salman tied upside down, with his legs bound, as a group of people repeatedly hit him with sticks.
The deceased – Mohammed Salman – and his companion Mohammed Rafid were tied upside down and beaten with sticks continuously.
According to Saharanpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Sagar Jain, a PCR call was made about a robbery attempt at the house of Raj Kumar. “The two men were said to be armed and tried to rob the house. When the family raised an alarm, the villagers caught them and beat them up as they tried to run away,” SP Jain said.
Salman’s body was returned to his family after a postmortem.
“He was handed over to the police who provided medical treatment. However, the accused died during the treatment.”
