Lucknow: During its nationwide ‘Saansad Sampark Abhiyan,’ Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) reached out to almost 400 Members of Parliament. The 18-day nationwide campaign, which ended on Friday, saw VHP cadres meeting at least one MP every hour.

During the whole exercise, VHP activists raised three issues that have been the focus of the saffron outfit: the liberation of temples from govt control, the Waqf Amendment Bill, and a review of Articles 29 and 30 of the Indian Constitution, which aim to protect the cultural and educational rights of religious and linguistic minorities.

“The campaign was essentially carried out by our dedicated workers, who met MPs at their residences and offices despite Parliament being in session,” said VHP national spokesperson Vinod Bansal while speaking to TOI Friday. VHP sources said its workers also met several Muslim MPs, including five from Uttar Pradesh, to gather feedback on the issues. However, the VHP men could not meet Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, as reportedly, they did not allocate time to them.

Bansal said that out of nearly 400 MPs, a little over 200 were from BJP, while the rest were from the opposition. “We also met many Muslim MPs from Congress, TMC, and Samajwadi Party,” he said.
