A man accused of cow slaughter was injured in a police encounter in the Mawana area of Meerut after attempting to flee when officers were recovering equipment used for slaughtering cows. The incident occurred on Wednesday.
According to Rajesh Kumar Kamboj, Station House Officer (SHO) of Mawana police station, the suspect, identified as Amir, tried to snatch the pistol of a sub-inspector during the operation. As the police attempted to apprehend him, Amir reportedly fired at the officers.
In retaliation, the police fired back, and Amir sustained a gunshot wound to one of his legs. He was later admitted to a local hospital for treatment.
The police have registered a case against Amir under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act for his involvement in cow slaughter and his attempt to evade arrest. The investigation is ongoing.
