A comprehensive study conducted by the non-profit collective Informed Voter Project, through its MumbaiVotes.com initiative, has found a stark disparity between the election promises made by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly election and the actual performance of the Mahayuti alliance government.
The alliance, comprising the BJP, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena faction, and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) faction, has been found lacking in key sectors like agriculture, healthcare, and infrastructure.
The comprehensive study analysed multiple areas, including agriculture, healthcare, transport, and women and child development, revealing that a significant portion of the promises remain unmet.
Specifically, 74% of agriculture-related pledges saw less than 50% fulfillment. A major commitment, providing 12-hour solar-powered electricity to farmers, was not implemented, leaving many without adequate power supply even as of October 2024.
Similarly, the ambitious goal of doubling farmers’ income by 2024 showed no substantial progress.
