The Dehradun police have registered an FIR against about 400 protesters, who gathered at the Clock Tower after detention of those accused in communal clashes and vandalism at the city’s railway station on Thursday.

On Friday afternoon a mob gathered at the Ghantaghar, raised slogans and obstructed traffic. They allegedly put up barricades and stones in front of the passing vehicles while demanding withdrawal of the case registered against Bajrang Dal leader Vikas Verma.

According to an FIR filed by Dehradun Kotwali SHO Chandrabhan Singh Adhikari, a group of unidentified individuals gathered outside the police station on Friday afternoon, demanding the withdrawal of the FIR. Despite efforts by the police to calm the situation, the protesters forced shopkeepers to close Paltan Bazaar and moved towards the Clock Tower.

The FIR stated that the protesters blocked the area, disrupting traffic by placing stones and barriers on the road, affecting vehicles, including ambulances and school traffic. As the crowd grew to about 300-400 people, additional police forces were called in.
