In TISS Mumbai Independence Day speech, speaker makes anti-minority rhetoric, propagates Hindutva (Maktoob Media)

In the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, or TISS Mumbai, the guest speaker at the Independence Day program was accused of propagating Hindutva ideologies and making anti-minority statements.

During his speech, Girish Y Prabhune, a Padma Shri award winner and pro-Hindutva activist, mentioned Islam four times. He stated, “Bharat was under the turmoil of Islam and British rule for centuries, and now we are free.”

Prabhune while speaking about the minorities in Bangladesh and the political upheaval caused by a student-led movement, warning against such student-led initiatives opposing the government in India. He implied that those supporting similar movements in India were aligned with Bangladesh and Pakistan, suggesting a threat to student voices or expressions of dissent against the current Indian government.

While speaking about the minority religions of Pakistan and Bangladesh, he targeted Muslims in India, students present, said to Maktoob.

The program began at 9 a.m., with a speech by Shankar Das, Pro Vice-Chancellor of TISS Mumbai.
