A student was expelled from an intermediate college for keeping a beard in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. The student’s elder brother has filed complaints with the Chief Minister and District Magistrate, and the video of the incident is going viral on social media.

Zeeshan Ali, a resident of Mohalla Nai Basti, said that his younger brother, Farman Ali, is a ninth-grade student at an intermediate college. Zeeshan alleged that the principal had been pressuring Farman for the past month to shave off his beard. When Farman refused, the principal threatened to expel him from the college and fail him in class.

On July 31, Farman went to college, but the principal refused to let him attend classes. “This is a college, not a madrasa,” the principal reportedly said. “If you come here with a beard, you must shave it off. You cannot study here like this.” The principal then expelled Farman from the college.

Zeeshan said the college has imposed a ban on attending classes with a beard. He has filed complaints with both the District Magistrate and the Chief Minister’s portal, demanding action.

When Farman’s brother asked the principal for an official order backing the demand to shave, the principal reportedly said, “This is not a madrasa but a college. You must shave your beard; otherwise, your name will be removed from the roll.” The principal then asked them to leave the college when they requested to see the official order.
