Kochi: CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Israel’s PM Benjamin Netanyahu share a reactionary ideology which is not only against minorities but all people in general. Hindutva and Zionism have parallels. Both endorse killing Muslim minorities. They also try to pass off mythology as history, he claimed, while inaugurating a meeting organized by CPM’s Ernakulam committee to extend solidarity to Palestine on Thursday.
Yechury urged that the UN resolution on boundaries of Israel and Palestine, introduced in 1967, must be followed. It’s the only feasible solution to the Israel-Palestine issue. Modi tweeted and expressed solidarity with Israel within hours of Hamas bombing southern Israel. At the same time, it took several days for Modi to comment on Manipur violence, he said while repeating CPM’s stand on the issue.
Even as Israel continues its counterattack by killing many including kids, Modi hasn’t spoken. India hasn’t officially taken a stand that Hamas is a terrorist outfit. Mahatma Gandhi also supported the cause of an independent Palestine in 1920. Even 100 days after riots happened in Manipur, Modi didn’t visit the state, Yechury said.
