The two right-wing outfits submitted a plea to the Deputy Commissioner of Tumakuru
Bengaluru: Right-wing outfits in Karnataka have yet again sought a ban on Muslim traders during temple fairs in the state. In the latest, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Bajrang Dal have submitted a plea to the Deputy Commissioner of Tumakuru seeking a ban on traders of other faiths at the Gubbi Channabasaveshwara temple fair, which began on Thursday in the district.
“As the government’s Muzrai laws restrict traders from other faiths within 100 metres of the temple premises, we request you to enforce the same,” VHP leader JK Srinivas wrote in the memorandum.
To avoid any untoward incident during the three-day temple fair, the police have beefed up security in the area.
This is not the first time a right-wing outfit objected to non-Hindu vendors setting up stalls in the temples. The issue has been prevalent since 2022 – especially after the Karnataka Hijab row.
Earlier in January, the VHP prohibited people from other faiths from setting up stalls during a temple fair in Karnataka’s Mangaluru.
