Amit Shah seldom does what a country’s Home Minister is expected to do. His constant order of business is to ensure that his countrymen feel safe and secure in their “home” and that there is no internal threat to them while ensuring that law enforcement agencies maintain law and order. He barely ever seen talking about maintenance of law and order and on the contrary is seen fanning the flames of sentiment against the opposition parties or the sometimes just the Left.
He not only failed to command the police force to ensure safety of the JNU students, but also blatantly ignored the incident offering absolutely no condemning remarks or condolence for the injured students and teachers in the University who were attacked by masked goons. These goons are known to be chanting “Desh ke gaddaro ko goli maaro saalo”, a slogan that has been raised by right-wing organizations and BJP workers on many occasions referring to the anti-CAA protestors.
The Home Minister, though, seems to care only about escalating a sentiment of hate against all anti-CAA protestors. While the ‘tukde-tukde gang’ is a Right-wing coinage that initially referred to a section of JNU students after the 2016 campus unrest in which then JNUSU (Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union) President Kanhaiyya Kumar was accused of sedition for allegedly raising anti-India slogans.
Sabrang India’s Take: Now this ‘tukde tukde gang’ reference is being liberally used by the right-wing hate peddlers for anyone and everyone who is protesting against the discriminative CAA. At an official event that he attended, first one after the JNU violence of masked goons, it was expected that he at least makes a mention of the incident and condemn an attack on JNU students, alas, he did not. He instead resorted to accusing Arvind Kejriwal of protecting the members of the tukde-tukde gang, thus using the public event as an election campaign for the impending Delhi elections of February 2020.
