AMRITSAR, India — A pastor working as a taxi driver was seriously injured when a group of Sikh extremists attacked him for his faith in Christ.
Sukhdev Mark, a pastor and church planter, drove a Sikh adherent to a hotel in Ambala, India Sept. 14, Morning Star News reported. During the drive, Mark gave the individual a gospel tract.
The next day the man asked Mark to take him to an airport in Amritsar by way of a detour. During the drive, three individuals — whom the customer said were his friends — approached and ambushed Mark, slashing him with cutters and knives.
Mark later underwent surgery for his wounds and was hospitalized until Sept. 23, Morning Star reported.
Police apprehended the three assailants and charged them with attempted murder.
Since Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power in 2014, Hindu extremists have been emboldened in their attacks on Christians.
Hinduism and Sikhism share many philosophical concepts, such as karma and dharma, though the two religions have different interpretations of some of these concepts.
